Set in a Parisian bar in 1904, this nimble comedy brings together three of the century’s most influential figures, each at the dawn of future greatness. One year later, the scientist will publish The Special Theory of Relativity, changing the way physicists looked at the world. Three years later, the painter will create �Les Demoiselles d�Avignon�, setting the course for cubism and modern art. And, out of step with the timeline, a singer is introduced, who will become the most revered rock-and-roll superstar in history.
But which will have the biggest impact on humanity? Art, science, or pop culture? The bohemian debate turns into an intellectual barroom brawl as these three influences duke it out for their place in history.
What is Anonymous Theatre?
Recently, actors from all over Portland auditioned for Picasso at the Lapin Agile. However, this was no ordinary audition process, as the outcome of the day�s auditions were kept secret…even from the cast itself.
In Anonymous Theatre, cast members learn their role and their role only. They are not given the identity of their fellow cast members, and they reveal their participation in the project to no one.
On the night of the performance, the actors arrive in street clothes and enter the theatre as if they are members of the audience. They take seats in the house, read their programs, chat with their neighbors, and in all ways behave like normal audience members. The house lights dim and the play begins, with each actor delivering their first line from their seat before entering the playing area. All cast members discover one another�s identity for the first time on stage, in front of a live audience.
