The Learned Ladies written by Moliere directed by Darius Pierce* Auditions were held, the play was cast… but the casting was kept secret. Even from the actors. Each actor had a few rehearsals one-on-one with the director, but never with anyone else in the show. On the night of the show, the actors arrived at the performance dressed in street clothes. They got a ticket and program and sat in the audience. The play began. The actors made their entrances from the audience, standing up and delivering their first lines en route to the stage, where they met the rest of the cast for the first time. ONE NIGHT ONLY! Molière’s hilarious masterpiece of intellectual pretension and the vicissitudes of love. Clitandre seeks the hand of Henriette, a match heartily approved of by her father, Chrysale. However, Chrysale’s wife, Philaminte, has other plans for her younger daughter – namely marriage to Trissotin… a foppish wit. War rages between the world of intellect and the world of emotion. And the battle compounds as family members join the fray on both sides. The course of true love does not run smoothly. *Located at 1819 NW Everett Street.
